Everyone goes on spring break it seems.
Not me….not really, and definitely not typical.
My junior year of college I went on spring break to Florida with a couple girlfriends. It was nothing crazy. And then my senior year of college I made the huge trek from Minneapolis to Chicago to stay with one of my best friends. Huge, right?!
I had friends who took out loans to go on spring break. Yes, loans! I could never justify that for a week of crazy, exotic adventure.
In my true fashion, I continue to dance to my own beat (i.e. Your Adult Spring Break).
I don’t need spring break to remind me that I need a break. Then again, I never wished for my “breaking” point to come where I’d be forced to say….time for a mental, not spring, break.
But here I am. I am reminded that when we tell God our plans, he laughs. (Of course Ryan reminded me of this.)
So God laughed, my perfectly perfectness perfection perfect (!) plans failed. Yet somehow I believe it might have been just what I needed right now.
Time for a mental break. It just so happens that it’s falling during the spring. But spring is not necessary for this type of break. When you need it right now, it probably means you needed it months ago.
In just a few short days, we’re heading out of dodge and into beautiful Sedona, AZ. Just Ryan and I. (Don’t worry, I already apologized to Reagan and Fiona.)
I can’t wait to relax. I can’t wait for a little adventure. I can’t wait for the scenery. I can’t wait for the solitude. I can’t wait for a lack of thinking. I can’t wait for so much thinking. I can’t wait to not be at everyone’s call 24/7. I can’t wait for inspiration. I can’t wait for long morning breakfast sessions. I can’t wait for rejuvenation.
I can’t wait for my mental break. I truly need a week or more, but I’m taking just a few days.
I learn more and more each day the true meaning of a healthy lifestyle. Remember, there is so much more to a healthy equation than simply just eating right and exercising.
The mind is a powerful tool. As a matter of fact, it is likely to be my most powerful tool – in good times and in bad. Now, if I could just harness it.
I’m finally giving my mind the kind love it needs and deserves….a mental break.
Love your guts,
SKH
