Work-Life Balance. But No Solution.

Today is the last day of my nothing changes if nothing changes “solution” series.

Miss the other ones? Here they are:

  1. Solution: Cleaning Out the Gut Part I
  2. Solution: Cleaning Out the Gut Part II
  3. Workouts: Something You’ve Never Done

It’s an endless pursuit of perfection….that old work-life balance.

Everyone thinks they have it figured out. There are tips and tricks and thoughts galore out there. The reality is that for professionals who truly love what they do and are truly trying to make things happen, it’s an endless work in progress.

I am no exception. As a matter of fact, I’m far from being good with this.

I mentioned before that I have been going, going, going….nearly 7 days a week and definitely “on” for 9-10+ hours a day, 5 days a week. I waited too long for my mental break to Sedona.

So what, right? I mean, look – we are all busy people….S@%^ needs to get done.

I’d like to agree with that. I typically do.

But I’m kind of over it.

I always get my stuff done – at least the important things. Where my hazy area forms is when I don’t distinguish clearly the difference between important and “busy.”

Last Wednesday I celebrated 1 year with Singley+Mackie. I remember the day I made the decision to work for Matt and the company. Back then it was Bittersweet. In hindsight there likely wasn’t anything “bitter” about the decision I made. It was the best decision I could have made. This past year has been amazing. It seems like just yesterday when Matt asked if there would be “any chance” I’d consider the move. Fast forward: I have learned so much, and I have grown so much. I am becoming the professional I’ve always striven to become.

The downside? BECAUSE I love what I do so much, I go and I go and I go. Couple this with my blog, a health coaching business I’m beginning to create and finishing up school, I’m literally 24/7.

But here is the problem: I’m not sure I have a solution for this one.

I am making major diet/lifestyle and fitness changes.

This one has me stuck.

I know we’re better in the long run with balance. I just need to dig really deep to find it.

Question: How do you achieve your work-life balance? Or are you in my same place?

Love your guts,
SKH

Red, White & Blue #SnackJoy

The countdown is on to the day of the Red, White & Blue!

I love this country! I love that my dad, uncles, other relatives and many friends are now or have served in our Armed Forces to protect this country.

I am proud to be an American! Like Eric Church says, “I cover my heart with my hat when they fly that red, white & blue….”

The “bonus” on July 4th is that we usually spend the day with friends and family, grilling, eating, drinking and having fun outdoors in the sun! This 4th of July will be no different!

4th of July food can often times look like: Brats, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Beer. And that’s fantastic, unless you are gluten free. I’ll keep the hamburger (sans-bun), and will indulge in snacking the rest of the time! Here is an idea of snack plate you can (easily) prepare for your 4th of July festivities:

Delicious #SnackJoy for Your 4th of July

Try different combinations, or just snack on them all individually. Regardless, the Red, White & Blue #SnackJoy is bound to have you seeing sparks all day and night!

28-Day Series with 28 Good Habits to Begin

It’s 2011 – CHEERS!

Remember in December when I mentioned via “Habit,”

The problem is not our intention. The intention is always great. The problem is the follow through, the commitment and the true “will” to stick with something for the long haul.

And then I mentioned, “ps. Are you interested in Habits? Good habits? Beginning January 3rd I am doing a 28- Days Series on 28 Good Habits to Begin! Stay tuned!”

28-Day Series with 28 Good Habits to Begin

Well here we are: January 3, 2011.

Today is the first day of my 28-day series with 28 good habits to begin! So what is this series? If you’re like me, then perhaps this was the year you decided not to make resolutions. And that’s perfectly okay. But perhaps there are things you’d like to accomplish or implement into your life – big or small.

Over the next 28 days, I am going to give you 28 ideas for “good habits” you can adopt and implement into your own life. Why 28? Because it takes 28 days to create a habit. Since one of my “good habits” I’m creating through this blog is to show you via practices, experiences and examples of how I’ll move even closer to a total simple, happy, zen life, I figured I’d dive right in with the first 28 days to set up for the rest of the year!

I could not be more excited for all that is in store for 2011!
