Embrace Change

My one word, eh, two words, for 2018 are embrace change.

I have done the “my one word” now for 6 years.

  • 2013: Life Unprocessed (again, two words)
  • 2014: Unprocessed
  • 2015: Healing Through Intention (again…..one word?!)
  • 2016: Less
  • 2017: Unafraid

I love setting this word(s) and theme(s) for the year ahead because it helps me stay focused on the present and all that I do or don’t want in my life for the upcoming year.

When thinking about my one word for 2018, here were the 3 words/phrases I kept coming back to:

  • Embrace Change
  • Change
  • Breathe

With everything happening in my life right now, they all resonated perfectly.

In the end, I landed on embrace change.

Embrace Change sarahkayhoffman.com My One Word 2018

Embrace: accept or support (a belief, theory, or change) willingly and enthusiastically

Change: the act or instance of making or becoming different + substitution of one thing for another

I am not going to spend much time talking about change and/or about embracing change today because as I have already mentioned, I will be doing a 101-day series on change beginning on Monday, January 9. This series is more conducive to my personal newsletter vs. the health coaching newsletter, so if you’re interested in these posts and topics, please make sure you’re subscribed HERE.

What I will say is this…..I can be 1,000% certain that 2018 is going to see massive change in my personal (and probably even professional) life.

Some of this change is coming (has already come) at lightning speed, whether I’m on board or not. There is no turning back.

Sometimes we create change, but oftentimes we don’t.

Some changes are welcome and exciting, and adapting is easy.

And some are not.

2018 will, without a doubt, have me faced with any and all of the above.

Instead of wondering about and resisting it, I must embrace change.

Let me tell you – this, like every other one-word or words I have set yearly – will be a massive challenge, and yet I know that the best thing I can do is set my one-word intention for 2018 to embrace change.

Do you set a word or words for the year ahead? If so, what is yours for 2018?

p.s. I totally killed my one word for 2017: Unafraid, so I know that setting these intentions do work!

Xox,
SKH

Embrace change – the only other option is to fight it and that’s not a fight we can win. We moved temporarily (we thought) to Honolulu in January 2013. That was a huge change for this California native! Five years later we are still splitting out time between here and there and we have gained an entire new family of friends. Looking forward to following along with you in 2018.

Our word for 2018 is acceptance. We’ve accepted that this will be our final year as foster parents but will support the system in a different way. I’m looking into being a CASA worker because I want to be a voice for the voiceless and fight for the child. I also want to volunteer more with one hope NOLA since they do so much to help us foster families. Our current placements case is not consistent so we’ve had to accept that, again, we have no control but to love him and be the best parents we can. We are hopeful for a good year and are ready to accept the blessings and challenges that will come our way.

Sherri, I am a CASA volunteer. It has been both wonderful and heartbreaking at times. The child I am currently advocating for is so precious, a ray of sunshine despite a lifetime of pain in 4 short years on earth. I love being able to make a difference/be a voice for kids that need someone to notice them in the chaos of the system. So many competing interests in these cases as they work through the court system, the kiddos can get lost in the shuffle. Bless you, for being a foster parent and best wishes in your future endeavors!

Kami, bless you for all that you do and I thank you for these words. Seeing what our childfren go through in the system compels me to want to help more and I will do my best to help them anyway I can.
