Yesterday after horseback riding, Ryan and I checked into our hotel to rest and relax awhile. Our room faces the ocean, so I left the door open to take in the silence with some background noise of waves clashing. In the peacefulness that was, all I could think about was the amazing 3-hour horseback ride we had. And consequently, how I wanted to share it here.
I hesitated for a long while.
I was reminded of the thought many hold in which, “a blog should not be like a diary.” Me writing on here about adventures in horseback riding surely is more like diary entry which begins, “Dear Diary: Today we went horseback riding. It sure was amazing.”
But as the waves clashed more, and I was at peace with the silence and zen of the hour, something occurred to me (with regards to my blog)….something that has not occurred to me until this very moment.
This is my blog. This is my space. This is a place where my life goes. And sometimes, it’s okay if it acts as a diary. The pure nature of a diary growing up (and even now) was one in which we just told life as it happened, in a raw, not very thought out and yet brilliantly said (for the moment that was) way. The “diary” was the secret space, and if we stumbled upon the diary of someone else, we were clearly intrigued by what the pages contained! Shouldn’t we all still crave this childhood excitement when reading blogs and other online content?
Sure I’m all about “digital addiction,” being “a gluten-free foodie” and having a passion for fitness and an overall healthy lifestyle. But those are all just pieces to my life – huge pieces – and yet still pieces. My life is more than articles, recipes, workouts, help and information. It’s also about just being….
all the little moments, instances and whims; the odd nooks and crannies – the day-to-day stories that complete the months and years perfectly
I am going to be much more cognizant of moments and days vs. only focusing on events and research only when it comes to my blog. Love it or hate it, this is me. This is who I am. There will never be another SarahKayHoffman.com, and I plan to keep this one as authentically true to Sarah Kay Hoffman as possible.
And with that, yesterday we went horseback riding….(ps. I planned to post these yesterday -> right as the thoughts developed. But since my Internet connection was not the greatest near the ocean, I was unable to.)
