Walking

Now that I’m Off the Running Circuit, I’m getting creative with ways to move each day. Yesterday I went for a walk first thing in the morning with Ryan and the dogs (Marmaduke needs plenty morning exercise!), and last night I went to a Pilates class. It was a peaceful day overall.

I don’t just say I walk (almost daily) to say it. We actually do. It’s a great way for Ryan and I to catch up with the day, the dogs to get exercise and me to always keep moving. I believe that sometimes we overlook the most simple ways to get activity in. Walking, and moving in general, is one way I manage my colitis. Because of this commitment, EveryBodyWalk.org is publishing my tips for walking/movement + colitis (coming out soon).

You may not have colitis or other digestive issues.

You may not be in my shoes with “off the running circuit.”

You may not ever do any kind of movement.

But research from the American Heart Association shows that as little as 30 minutes of walking each day can improve your heart health and lower your risk of diabetes, depression, and some types of cancer.

Take the Pledge to Walk

EveryBodyWalk.org wants to help you jumpstart your walking regime by taking the Walking Pledge on their Facebook Page. As an added incentive, they’re giving way 5 pedometers every day from now through August 19. Just take the pledge to enter.

Increase your chances of winning by including our entry code: giddyup8 (Click HERE to enter.)

Because I am blog partner with Every Body Walk!, two of our readers are guaranteed to win pedometers. (Please make note: I am not paid in any way, shape or form by Every Body Walk! I have no vested interested, other than the dedication to a healthy lifestyle and understanding that not one workout/movement style works for everyone!)

Do you walk daily?

Do you use weights while walking (some do!)?

Will you give yourself 30 minutes per day, no matter what you do?

Tell yourself you deserve it – because YOU DO!

Agree!! Movement is key. We all need it – we all know we need it. Let’s just get on it and do it. I had a client talk to me once about what is the “right” exercise for her. The “right” exercise!?!? My answer…

    THE ONE YOU ACTUALLY DO!

Maybe walking is perfect. Maybe running is perfect-or used to be ;) . Maybe swimming, dancing, yoga. Just get your buns moving.

You are absolutely correct, Jen! So many people think there is a “magic formula.” The reality is that there simply is not. It’s little steps we take everyday! Thanks for your thoughts!

  3. So funny because I’ve started walking every day again (too hot to run) about 3 miles or so. Love that I get outdoors and give my brain a break! I don’t use weights when I walk, only my iphone, earbuds & my water! :)
